For this reason, eight means to access community management of spaces are presented and for each of them, legal references are made and examples mentioned. As a complement, two tools for building sustainability and self-assessment are presented, in addition to ten inspiring cases explained in more depth. A bibliography complements the guide.

The Guide has been edited on paper and a copy can be collected in the presentation, while there is also a digital version. It’s been produced by the Transitant team from the femProcomuns cooperative, it’s been designed by La Page design studio and printed by Gramagraf cooperative. Several people participating in self-managed spaces in Catalonia, have also collaborated by contributing and reviewing it.

The eight means of accessing the communal management of a space that are presented here are: cession of use of a public asset, management agreement, lease or commodatum, urban masoveria, collective ownership, land stewardship, communal ownership and squatting. Without pretending to be a legal publication, we have tried to provide the legal and regulatory framework for each of them, so that collectives who want to use it have ways to stretch the line.

The Commons Sustainability Model and the XEC’s Community Balance are also briefly presented as enforcement and evaluation tools. With regard to the ten inspiring cases, the aim was to present some cases from all over Catalonia and not only from Barcelona, in order to show this model can be put into practice all over the world. Information provided in each case is structured so that the characteristics can be easily compared and understood, such as what is managed, how the use is accessed, what activities are carried out, the person or entity that owns and manages it, etc.

We have also wanted to include two cases from other parts of the world, among the many that could have been, to show that this is an extended and emerging practice, with common elements that inspire each other. Can Batlló (La Bordeta, Barcelona), Can Fugarolas (Havana, Mataró), Ateneu popular de Salt (Salt, Gironès), Ateneu popular de 9 barris (Trinitat Nova, Barcelona), Nau Bostik (Sagrera, Barcelona), Ca la Sisqueta (Riu Sud, Santa Coloma de Gramenet), Can Tonal de Vallbona (Sant Antoni de Vilamajor, Vallès Oriental), Can Sanpere (Premià de Mar, Maresme), B’timent 7 (Point-Saint-Charles, Montreal, Quebec, Canada) and Ex-Asilo Filangieri (Naples, Italy). In addition to these cases, when presenting the ways of doing the management, other cases are also mentioned.

Ateneu Sant Roc (Badalona)

The presentation will take place at the headquarters of the Ateneu Sant Roc, the result of the local movement and community work in this neighborhood. The mission of the Ateneu Sant Roc Foundation is to promote the social cohesion of the Sant Roc neighborhood in Badalona, together with its neighbors, through the promotion of various educational, social and cultural projects aimed at children, young people and adults, especially affecting groups in a situation of vulnerability and risk of social exclusion. It is made up of 371 members, more than 350 volunteers and 25 paid workers who are distributed within operating teams, programs and projects that cover 3 areas of work: education of children and young people; reception and training; community development. It has its origin in the San Roque Cultural Social Center (1969) and the Sant Roc Popular Ateneu (1987) that in 2005 was transformed into the Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc. Its activities are carried out in a building ceded by the bishopric and in different spaces of the neighborhood.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 17:30, at the Ateneu Sant Roc in Badalona, the “Guia de gestió comunitària.
