On 29 September, the Bureau of Third Social Sector Organisations of Catalonia is organising an online/offline conference to present the Report on the Internet as a Right, commissioned by the Bureau and jointly prepared by the Observatori DESC and femProcomuns.
The report addresses whether the internet should be guaranteed for everyone and, if so, whether it should be recognised as an instrumental or substantive right. It also deals with the role of key agents such as administrations, companies and the social third sector organisations themselves, which care for, accompany and offer services and support to people who are vulnerable and/or have more socio-economic difficulties.
Experts will discuss the aspects that can have the greatest impact on the lives of those who are being excluded from the opportunities and advances offered by the Internet. The international experience of Estonia and that of the authors of a specific research on data poverty in the United Kingdom will also be presented. A round table will be held with representatives of the administration, the academic sector, telecommunications companies and the third social sector, it is essential for these agents to work together.
